This week I went to Tanukidai Fudoin. It is a nice and peaceful hike with an amazing temple at the end. It is 20-minute walk from Kyoto University.

Going out with friends is amazing opportunity but sometimes I need time to myself and relax. That is what I did this week. My favorite spot in Kyoto is sitting at the Kamogawa river and watching the sunset.
Kyoto is amazing but sometimes it is best to change things up sometime. I went to Tokyo this weekend and checked of my bucket list. I went to the famous Shiba Inu statue and shopped at Shibuya.
I felt a little home sick, so my friends and I decided to go to the beach. This beach was located in the north part of Kyoto. It took about 1 hour from Kyoto University. The beach was clean, and the water is super clear.
This week my friends and I hiked up Daimonji mountain. I highly recommend this hike. It is about a 40-minute hike and is half a mile away from Kyoto University. It is easy, safe, and you will meet many friendly people along the way.
I had the had the opportunity to watch a sumo tournament this past week. I would highly recommend everyone to watch a sumo match if you have the chance. I wasn't interested in sumo before coming to Japan but after going to a sumo tournament was very fun. The atmosphere was like nothing else. The energy in the stadium was like nothing else. I will gladly visit the sumo tournament again.
Japan's longest holiday named golden week. The golden week falls between April 29 to May 5.
I spent my holiday visiting cities near Kyoto. I visited Osaka and Nara. Osaka is a beautiful city. The city is very lively and the people are just as expressive. There is people laughing and having fun everywhere you look. I would highly recommend visiting Osaka if you have the time. I also visited Nara. Nara is very peaceful with deer to feed and pet. There are venders all over Nara selling deer snack. I would be very cautious around because some deer's may be aggressive but most of the deers are friendly. really tried to put my self out there to interact with Japanese students. Luckily Kyoto University does an amazing job with connecting international students with Kyoto University students. I am currently standing infront of KIZUNA. The support center for international students. They hold events for students once a month and have a application for international student and Kyoto University to meet. I took full advantage of this opportunity and already made two Japanese's students.
It has been one week since school started. It has been a very fun experience so far. There are two interesting aspects in Kyoto University. The fist aspect is that there are set times for class. Unlike in the University of Hawaii where you are able to take a class at any time. In Japan, there are set time slots that students must take class at. The second part that I found interesting is that the cafeteria actually serve home style food. There isn't just pizza or a sandwich in America. Kyoto University serves more hearty foods. I have attached a video to show what Kyoto University cafeteria looks like.
I had to report to Kyoto University at least one week before class starts. There are many paper works that I was required to do when I arrive. I had to go to the city hall to register my address and buy the national health insurance ( mandatory even though I already have health insurance). The health insurance will cost around $20 a month. I was also be able to pick the class that I want to register as well the first week before school.
